Bluebird Family
Fiddle Camp

Where fiddlers become friends, and friends become family.

June 28 - July 5, 2026

Blowing Rock, North Carolina

Welcome to the family!

An evolving tradition with a rich history of 22 years, The Bluebird Family Fiddle Camp welcomes families and musicians of all ages interested in traditional folk music and dance!  The camp celebrates a variety of musical and dance traditions including traditional Celtic, Old Time, jazz, contra dance, and more!  Classes are available for fiddle, cello, bass, guitar, mandolin, clawhammer banjo, penny whistle, ukulele, and dance.  Organized classes and activities for younger children are also offered. Campers stay
on the beautiful mountaintop campus of Blowing Rock Conference Center, as they eat, learn, and play together.

We promote the “whole family” camp experience and follow an ethos of tradition, family, inclusivity, and acceptance. The BFF Camp promotes intergenerational music making and learning.  Families and fellow campers attend classes, workshops, and events to learn together and make the musical and personal connections that are so important to sustain folk and traditional music.

The faculty, who are recognized leaders in music education and folk and traditional music, create enrichment opportunities for both total beginners and advanced players.

The camp, in one form or the other, has been hosted by the Blowing Rock Conference Center (BRCC), with 2025 marking the 23rd year.  Located in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, the BRCC is steeped in natural beauty and regional tradition.  Hotel-style rooms are available for families and individuals, along with dormitory style lodging for young-adults or studio groups.  All meals are provided at the BRCC.  Beyond the expansive grounds of the BRCC lie the ample recreational opportunities of Blowing Rock and the surrounding region.

Classes are divided between non-music and music activities with beginner, intermediate, and advanced tracks.  Campers can choose classes across categories, including single instrument, multi-instrumental ensembles of diverse genres, dance, and music appreciation. Following classes, campers join up for meadow games, Yoga, a walk in the woods, or taking in the view.  Evening activities include all-camp nightly jam-sessions, enjoying performances from The Walker Family Band, camp fires, and the now-famous Techno Contra-dance evening.
